Reiki is a natural healing energy that can have profound benefits for not only humans but animals as well. Our pets are deeply connected to us in our day to day lives and it only makes sense to offer reiki as a way to give back some of the unconditional love and healing they share with us. I have found that our animals really want to be of service and connect with those they love to the extent that often they will take on the burdens we carry to help us lighten our load! Reiki therapy offers us a way to help release their anxiety and stress in a safe and gentle way by restoring balance and removing blockages and also as a complement to traditional veterinary medicine. With larger animals reiki is extremely effective as one can do "distance reiki" to cover all the hand positions. This is especially useful for animals that are in an anxious or aggressive state or those that have painful skin conditions or sores.
Some animals are highly bred and/or trained and this may also effect their emotional and physical state. Imagine a race horse or trained sled dog....their needs may differ significantly due to the rigours of daily physical stress and exertion and the amount of special attention they require. The animal may also have a history of neglect or abuse and reiki gets to the core of deep healing to help the animal release these memories on a cellular level. Older animals have special needs and requirements that reiki can also tap into.
Over the past 20 years I have found that reiki helps us open up a line of communication with other species we share this planet with. I love animals and I know that reiki restores our connection on a deep level to find the origin of health problems, disease or imbalance. Every type of animal from dogs, cats, birds, horses, pigs, goats, sheep and even deer, bear and fish can realize a new level of well-being through reiki.

My teacher Wanja Twan did reiki on a herd of deer suffering hoof and mouth disease in an ashram in India with excellent results. She and another reiki practitioner Krishni Borang sent distance reiki treatments to each animal and watched as the animals responded by flickering their muscles/fur in response. Over a period of days every animal that had the potentially fatal ailment was healed.

help them ease into the transition so they can gently release the fear and struggle to remain a part of our lives. I have had the great honour to attend many animals who were either being put "to sleep" or dying of natural causes and reiki always brings a sense of peace and release for the animal.
